Metro 3 Project

Métro 3 is a new high-performance transport line to better connect the people of Brussels, which will serve the Gare du Nord.

25th July

Metro 3 is an essential project for the future of Brussels. This new high-capacity north-south axis will be the new backbone of a network that needs to develop to keep pace with a capital city-region whose population is growing, and whose ambition is to meet the climate challenges and build a sustainable future.

The project is divided into 2 distinct and successive phases:

  • Phase 1: transformation of the existing pre-metro between Albert and Gare du Nord, construction of a new Toots Thielemans station between Gare du Midi and Anneessens (piloted by STIB) and construction of a junction tunnel under the Gare du Nord tracks (piloted by Beliris). These projects are currently underway.
  • Phase 2: extension of the line from Gare du Nord to Bordet, including the construction of 7 stations (Liedts, Colignon, Verboekhoven, Riga, Tilleul, Paix and Bordet), a 4.5 km tunnel and a depot at Haren. Beliris is managing the works, and the permit procedure is underway.

Métro 3 is an ambitious project that coherently combines the need to modernize and extend the network, while linking the people of Brussels to their neighborhoods and the city center.
